Starting with Mavericks these apps will include what was previously grouped in the iLife and iWork suites (e.g., iPhoto, iMovie, Pages, Keynote). You will not be able to use Software Update to update College-distributed apps. Make sure that Allow apps download from anywhere is selected. Also check System Preferences > Security & Privacy.This might include changing Computer Sleep from Never to an amount of time and if you wish select to Put hard disks to sleep when possible. You may want to change your energy settings back to what you had before, particularly if you have a laptop. Follow our instructions to update or install Java. You may need to install Java after upgrading to OS X Mavericks.In the Finder menu, click the Apple icon then Software Update. Once the Mavericks installation is finished, check for any needed updates.If you don't want to enter your Apple ID, click Don't sign in then click Continue then Skip. The iCloud registration window titled Sign in with Your Apple ID will appear asking for your iTunes account information. When the Mavericks installation finishes your computer will restart.If any problems occur contact the IT Help Desk. Do not interrupt the installation while it runs. From this point the installation will take at least 45 minutes. After your computer restarts, the Mavericks installation will run.Wait while the Mavericks installation stages for several minutes and then your computer will restart.In the next window that opens click the blue Install button.See screenshot included below where Install Mavericks 10.9 is highlighted with a yellow border. In the Self-Service featured items in the center of the screen, find Install Mavericks 10.9 and click the gray Install button.Log in with your Amherst user name and password.If Self Service is not listed under Applications, follow our instructions to enroll your computer for Self Service software delivery. Turn off wireless before starting the installation by clicking the wireless or Wi-Fi icon on the desktop and click Turn Wi-Fi Off or go to System Preferences > Network.Log out after # minutes of inactivity should not be selected, deselect if needed.Ĭlick the padlock to relock then close the window. Check your Mac's Energy Saver settings.If you use any kind of virtual machine, such as Virtual Box or VMware Fusion, make sure to shut down the virtual machine.
